GET (Graduate Essay Test)
What is GET?
GET is an exam that a Graduate student must take during the course of the graduate program. GET is a mandatory requirement and is necessary for a student to graduate from University. The student is supposed take this exam either in the first or second semester. Students who apply for the graduate program in SFSU usually get an email that says that this GET exam has to be taken in the first semester itself. But, it is allright to take this exam in the second semester. The email also says that the GET has to be taken before filing for GAP.Students have to file for GAP one semester prior to thier last semester.Accordingly students can take GET.
The GET course fee is $1500 and the units obtained from the class are not counted towards the 30 units required for graduation in any of the programs at San Francisco State University.GET exam fee is $50.If the student is not able to pass the GET exam then he has to take the English course which cost $900
Waiving GET
The passing score in the exam is 6.0 out of 8.0. There is also a concept of marginal pass of 5.5. This is sometimes accepted as a pass score by some departments, but majority of the departments including Computer Science and Electrical Engineering only accept 6.0 as the passing score.
MBA students can waive GET if their AWA score in GMAT is 5 and above.Only MBA students can waive GET if they score 5 and above in GET.
On failure in GET, the student is doomed to take an English class the following semester.
