The GET exam can be taken in any semester during the graduate program. but it would depend in how many semesters the student thinks he/she will graduate.
For Example
If a computer science student does not have any pre requisites and he expects to garduate in 3 semesters then he has to either clear the GET or take GET as a course in his second semester. The reason being that the student has to clear GET at the time filing GAp which is done one semester prior to graduating.In our example in the second semester.
These pre-thesis/pre-research courses (course number 899) are usually taken in the third semester. Hence, the second semester attempt of GET is the last one, because by the beginning of the third semester, if the student does not have a pass in GET, or a pass in the English class (taken by students who fail GET), then the student will not be allowed to file for GAP. This means that the student cannot achieve graduation in 2 years (4 semesters). So unless the student is okay with completing graduation after 2 years, then attempts can be made as many times as wanted.
