GET POINTS TO REMEMBER:

BEFORE YOU START WRITING THE ESSAY:
a. Read the question carefully and understand the problem.
b. Read the points given below in the problem and form your opinion (as to whether you want to support or write against the concept)
c. Mark the points as + if they support your stance and – if they contradict your stance.

1. The Introductory paragraph:
This paragraph should ideally begin with the explanation of the problem in own words. This is known as the problem statement. i.e. one should explain what he/she thinks is the problem, The writer should notify his/her role in the first paragraph itself (for e.g.: As a concerned committee member etc.). This role is specified in the problem text given to you. The last statement of this paragraph should give the opinion of the writer as to whether he/she is in support of or against the central idea explained in the problem statement.
2. Argument paragraphs:
The argument paragraphs are developed logically by combining the facts provided. If 2 + points point toward the same concept then they need to be combined into one paragraph. Also if there are any – points that are related to the paragraph’s logic then that too needs to be incorporated.
The writer should try to accommodate as many facts provided as possible. IMP: The writer should also incorporate at least two instances of “”. I.e. Acknowledging that certain people might consider the opposite view due to some xyz reason but also stating that your reason is much more valid than xyz reason.
For e.g. some people might say that making the MUNI free would be monetarily beneficial for the commuters. Although, this might be true in the short run, the losses incurred by MUNI would sooner or later result in additional tax rise that would eventually burden all the citizens. Also, argument paragraphs should number ideally between 3 and 5. Two similar or logically related ideas should not be a part of different paragraphs.
3. The second last paragraph:
This paragraph is optional and would contain all the suggestions from the writer which would further strengthen the writer’s claims and stance. For e.g. It would be a good idea for the MUNI to earn more income by the way of advertising. This would ensure the ticket rates to be low and at the same time keep the MUNI from incurring major losses.
4. Concluding paragraph:
This would contain the effects of the user’s stance in future. I.e. what would be the scenario if the user’s stated position was followed or accepted. Obviously, this scenario has to be portrayed as rosy as possible.
