Other Important Points To Look For
Other American Insurance Policies:
The school always makes students buy a selected insurance policy, but you can always try convincing them on a policy from some other US based insurance agent, since some of the agents give good deals that are on month to month insurance plans and are cost effective too.
Travel Insurance:
Students should inquire about travel insurance while buying air ticket to US.
US based insurance plans like United Health Insurance and Blue Cross are recommended even if they cost few more. It is definitely worth the convenience that avoids mental stress.
Prescription Insurance:
The CSU approved health insurance (recommended by SFSU) only covers cost of treatment, medical test and doctor's fee. One needs to buy prescription insurance to take care of the medicines. Insurance agents have month-by-month plans that cover everything and, sometimes even have dental insurance for an extra $20 or $30. The medicines are categorized as “General” or “Brand”. They have different compensation rules. In most cases, “General” medicines have 100% coverage whereas the “Brand” medicines have about 30% to 40% coverage. Most of the prescription insurance plans have fixed ‘Deductibles’. These deductibles are decided on the maximum-coverage-amount limits on every plan. The bills that exceed that limit are discounted by 30% to 40% (for the exceeded amount) or at times there is no coverage at all.
